How you can save energy

The less energy we all use, the less we have to produce. That’s good news for the planet because at the moment a lot of electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels. This emits greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2), one of the major causes of global warming.

Save energy, help save the planet
Charging your phone for four hours every week uses around 800Wh of energy a year. Although this isn’t a huge amount (having a 60W light on for the same amount of time would use 12,480Wh in a year) it’s still significant. You can cut how often you need to charge your phone by:

  • Decreasing the brightness of your phone’s screen.
  • Setting the standby time to the minimum.
  • Turning off or disabling the sounds you don’t need such as keypad tones. You may also want to adjust the volume of your phone to average level, particularly if you are inside your home or office. Fewer sounds mean you’re using less energy.
  • Turning off services when you’re not using them.

When you do have to charge your phone, remember to unplug it from the socket when the battery is full. If you forget, Nokia devices will remind you to unplug.
