Furthering careers, education and culture

ABLE stands for Advancing Black Leadership and Excellence. Our group’s purpose is to further the professional, educational, economic, career, and cultural opportunities within Nokia for the African American and African descent community. We want our community to benefit from a strong inclusion and diversity foundation and the belief that business should better reflect the world around them.

For current and future generations

We invest in equal opportunity for future generations. Based in the US, ABLE works closely with our company’s North America Talent Acquisition team on nationwide campaigns towards students attending Historical Black Colleges Universities (HBCU), identifying as Black/African American and/ or members of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).

In 2021, ABLE also worked intensely on a Nokia community project, in which Nokia and Udacity funded and worked with the BIT (Blacks in Technology) Foundation to offer 300 Nanodegree scholarships to members of this underrepresented community in STEM fields. This included people wishing to advance or move into a career in technology. In 2022, ABLE set up mentoring for receivers of BIT scholarships.

Engaging people through dialogue

In February 2022, our Advancing Black Leadership and Excellence (ABLE) community organized a series of virtual events to celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth. #TeamNokia colleagues from all over the globe attended the sessions to learn more on topics like advancing economic, educational and social progress for African Americans and the health impact of COVID-19 on minorities in America.
