Espoo, Finland - Nokia today announced that Puntonet Ecuador, one of the top five ISPs in the country, will deploy its software-defined and XGS-PON fiber solutions to help address the growing demand for high-speed internet services from end-users. The deployment will enable Puntonet to increase competitive advantage and enhance the reliability, flexibility, and scale of its fiber network to better support evolving customer demands.
Using Nokia's next-generation fiber technology, Puntonet can quickly expand its current service offering to deliver new 10Gbps broadband speeds to residential and business customers. The solution will help Puntonet improve the capacity, latency and stability of its fiber network needed to support use cases such as 4K/8K video streaming, competitive gaming and critical business applications for enterprises. Additionally, Puntonet will deploy Nokia’s network automation software, the Nokia Altiplano Access Controller, to help streamline operations and lower costs. The cloud-native platform offers a complete suite of network management and SDN control functions that allow Puntonet to better visualize, automate and optimize broadband access services.
Puntonet also used Nokia’s fiber solution to successfully trial 25G PON, showcasing the network’s flexibility and scalability to seamlessly move from XGS-PON today to 25G PON in the future using the same access node and fiber cables. The 25G trial showcases Puntonet’s commitment to continually enhance its fiber network and marks an important step towards extending future ultra-broadband services. Nokia is the only vendor that supports all next-generation PON options, including 10G, 25G, 50G, and future 100G PON technologies.
Katherin Miño, CEO Ecuador, said: "We are pioneers in Ecuador, successfully conducting the first tests of 25GPON technology. This innovation sets a new industry standard by enabling us to deliver a robust, future-ready infrastructure, elevating connectivity levels. It enhances service quality for everyone and ensures the infrastructure is prepared to support the country's growth in the coming years. With Nokia, we are committed to advancing connectivity in remote areas, striving to minimize the digital divide in Ecuador,"
Javier Falcón, Head of Network Infrastructure for Latin America at Nokia, said: “This marks a huge step forward, propelling Puntonet into the gigabit era and establishing them as a leader in Latin America’s fiber networks. We deeply appreciate their trust in Nokia and are eager to collaborate on even more exciting ventures in the future.”
