Taipei, Taiwan – Nokia today announced that HOMEPLUS is deploying its Gigabit Connect with Multimedia over Coax Alliance Access (MoCA Access) solution across five administrative districts in northern Taoyuan City, Taiwan. Nokia’s Gigabit Connect MoCA Access solution allows HOMEPLUS to significantly improve the user experience for its home broadband customers and provide internet services with symmetrical speeds of up to 2Gbps over the existing coax cables located in buildings. With Nokia’s solution, which incorporates technology from InCoax Networks, HOMEPLUS can now provide fiber-like speeds to buildings that are difficult to serve with fiber.
Outfitting old buildings with fiber can be difficult for engineers who are often challenged by inaccessible cable ducts, problems with rewiring, and service interruptions. The Nokia Gigabit Connect MoCA Access solution eliminates these issues, allowing broadband service provider to connect their Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network to the building’s existing coax network. Once connected, service providers can use the existing coax network to deliver gigabit speeds to customers in each living unit, eliminating the need to pull new fiber. This can significantly help reduce the time and cost of upgrading older buildings to new ultrabroadband services. The FTTH and MoCA solutions can also be managed as a single network, making it easy to operate.
Chen Zuoming, General Manager at HOMEPLUS, said: “Collaborating with global technology leader Nokia for MoCA Access allows our fiber optic services to reach new customers faster as it not only brings down the construction time but also improves network performance by ensuring a high speed of up to 2Gbps. The introduction of MoCA Access network technology is in line with our commitment to fiberization to ensure best-in-class network experience to our customers in all areas.”
Kevin Kuo, Head of Network Infrastructure Sales for Taiwan at Nokia, said: “Nokia is committed to trusted performance, and we are thrilled that our Gigabit Connect MoCA Access solution enables HOMEPLUS to provide an exceptional network experience to its users in older buildings in Taoyuan City. Nokia’s Gigabit Connect solution helps operators, like HOMEPLUS, ensure gigabit speed to its customers in difficult-to-reach buildings. It will allow HOMEPLUS to upgrade faster and better serve locations that are too difficult or expensive to reach with fiber.”
