R&D centres

Our Bangalore R&D centre, one of Nokia’s largest centres, is undertaking research in various advanced technologies including telco cloud, big data analytics, software applications, next-generation core, IP, Optical, 5G and 6G. The centre also hosts first-of-its-kind 6G Lab in India, inaugurated in October 2023.

Our Chennai R&D centre for Fixed Networks, focuses on access broadband technologies Including Copper, Fiber, Software Defined Access Networks, Management Solutions, Broadband Devices and Services. The centre has a best-in-class lab fostering innovation, defining the access market and promoting fiber for everything.

Manufacturing

Nokia’s Chennai factory manufactures a wide range of telecom products including 5G/ 4G radios and GPON optical line terminals (OLTs) for domestic and global markets, 40% of which is exported. The factory was the first to start production of 5G radio equipment in India. It was also the first in India to deploy ‘real-world’ application of Industry 4.0 to enhance operational efficiency and productivity. It fulfils 80% of its energy requirement with green energy and aims to achieve 100% green energy use by 2025. The factory reached a significant production milestone of seven million telecom units in October 2023.

Global Delivery Centers

Nokia established its largest Global Delivery Centres in Chennai and Noida. These centres deliver services portfolio to key customers globally through continued innovation & automation and help CSPs to be future ready, as networks become more and more complex.

Making 5G mainstream

5G services in India were launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 1st October 2022, at the 6th edition of India Mobile Congress (IMC). Nokia partnered with Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel for implementing one of the world’s biggest and fastest 5G roll out in the country.

Nokia manufactures 5G NR and 5G Massive MIMO equipment at its Chennai factory for the domestic and global markets. Our Global Delivery Centres in Chennai and Noida are supporting the Indian CSPs with their 5G roll out and infrastructure built up while our R&D centre in Bangalore is playing a key role in developing 5G use-cases and local ecosystem.
