1 Mb/s 802.3 LAN for SONET Intra-Site DCC Message Distributions

This paper focuses on the application of a 1 Mb/s Ethernet LAN (i.e. IEEE 802.3 1BASE5) for SONET intra-site DCC message distribution. The technical feasibility of the LAN is first demonstrated by analyzing channel efficiencies and station access delays for both bulk data transfer and real time message applications. The paper concludes with an assessment of the maintenance, management and operations aspects of the LAN in a central office environment.
