10-Gb/s 177-km Transmission over Conventional Single-Mode Fiber Using a Vestigal Side-Band Modulation Format
01 January 2001
We demonstrate the transmission of 10-Gb/s vestigial-side-band (VSB) signals over 177 km of conventional single-mode fiber. The dispersion penalty was measured to be less than 3 dB. The simulation analysis shows that the small dispersion penalty comes from the combination of reduced spectral width of the VSB signal and the negative dispersion of the VSB filter.
