10 Gb/s Based WDM Signal Transmission over 500 km of NZDSF Using Semiconductor Optical Amplifier as the In-Line Amplifier
01 February 2001
Long distance (over 500 km) transmission of 10 Gb/S based WDM signal using in-line semiconductor optical amplifiers have been successfully demonstrated with BER better than 10 sup -14 utilizing the wavelength modulation technique. With the normal transmission scheme, there is an error floor near the BER of 10 sup -4 regardless of the transmission distance, which is due to the cross gain modulation effect in the SOA.
