(13)C NMR chemical shifts of poly(vinyl alcohol).

Calculated chemical shifts are compared to the 100 MHz (13)C NMR spectra reported for PVOH in D2O and dimethyl-d(6)-sulfoxide by Ovenall. The relative orders of the observed methine pentad and methylene hexad (13)C resonances agree with the calculated chemical shifts, in addition to agreement between the overall chemical shift dispersions measured and predicted for the methylene carbons.
