New Image

We demonstrate 14.5Tb/s bidirectional transmission over 2.2km of OM2 fiber using selective excitation of 4 mode groups, WDM multiplexing and direct detection. 40 wavelengths per mode group are used, each wavelength is modulated with discrete multitone (DMT) scheme with 512 subcarriers. A 88Gs/s digital to analog converter (DAC) is used to drive an external lithium niobate Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM). This is the highest throughput transmitted over multimode fibers using direct detection.
