15,000-km, 8.2-GHz soliton propagation in a fiber loop using 980-nm diode-pumped amplifiers and a mode-locked monolithic semiconductor laser source

A monolithic extended-cavity semiconductor laser with an integrated Bragg reflector is used as a soliton source for a recirculating fiber loop with 980-nm diode-pumped Erbium doped fiber amplifiers. Propagation over 15000 km is demonstrated at a repetition rate of 8.2 GHz.
