We demonstrate 1.6 Tb/s (40 × 42.7 Gb/s) WDM transmission over 2000 km of fiber with 100-km amplifier spacing and 100-GHZ channel spacing. Error free transmission of all 40 C-band channels is achieved. We employ dispersion-managed fiber spans, hybrid Raman/Er-doped fiber inline amplifiers. and forward error correction to achieve this record 40 Gb/s WDM transmission distance with terrestrial span lengths.
