25 Gb/s Electrical Duobinary Transmission over FR-4 Backplanes

25 Gb/s electrical duobinary transmission over an FR-4 backplane is demonstrated for the first time. The BER performance is better than 10 sup -13. This has been achieved by using a 2- tap FIR filter for pre-emphasis and a high-speed duobinary- to-binary converter at the receiver. This work provides a potential path for realizing 100 Gb/s Ethernet systems using existing backplane technology.
