50G PON FEC Evaluation with Error Models for Advanced Equalization

The consecutive error behavior at the FEC decoder input arising from advanced equalization schemes is modeled using a sub-class of Fritchman's Markov models. An optical power penalty of 0.3 dB is incurred for a variant of the IEEE 802.3ca LDPC code with this structure to model errors at the output of an MLSE equalizer for a 50G PON experiment with transceiver bandwidth limitation and channel dispersion corresponding to 30km transmission at 1342nm.
