5G waveform enabling the support of 100x devices with up to 10x lower latency

One driver for 5G is the vision to support a multitude of service and device classes. Bell Labs has invented a new waveform and access structure: Universal-Filtered OFDM (UF-OFDM) with an unified frame structure for handling this heterogeneity. This will enable a highly scalable and flexible system with improved spectral properties and higher robustness against crosstalk and relaxed synchronicity operation. Based on those innovations, the 5G system can increase the number of devices up to 100x, save battery times up to 10x at the device and offer modes with up to 10x lower latency.
