8 Gb/s Transmission Over 76 km of Optical Fiber Using a Directly- Modulated 1.3-micron DFB Laser.
01 January 1988
We report an optical transmission experiment at a data rate of 8 Gb/s over an unrepeatered distance of 76 km. The transmitter was a directly-modulated, 1.3-micron-wavelength, distributed- feedback laser. The receiver employed an avalanche photodiode and a high-impedance GaAs MESFET preamplifier.
