A 5-GHz Band CMOS Low Noise Amplifier with a 2.5-dB Noise Figure
01 January 2001
A low-noise amplifier for use in the 5-GHz wireless band has been implemented in a 0.25-mm CMOS technology. The amplifier is a single-stage, differential cascode design utilizing high- Q, on-chip inductors for input and output 50-Ohm matching and to provide degeneration. The amplifier has a noise figure of 2.5-dB, a power gain of 16-dB, and a 1-dB compression of -11.7-dBm at the input at 5.25 GHz. The amplifier dissipates from 12-mW to 48-mW from a 3-V supply. In addition to being fabricated as a stand-alone test circuit, the amplifier has been combined with mixers and an oscillator to form a 5-GHz band CMOS.
