A simple code inspection model is developed from data derived from several hundred code inspections and the results of later testing. This model relates the amount of effort put into the inspection, per thousand non- commentary source lines (kncsl) of code, to the effectiveness of the inspection.

The model proves useful for several purposes. It has been used to determine effort guidelines for the code inspection process, i.e. recommended levels of preparation effort per kncsl and rate of inspection in ncsl per hour.
