This paper studies several different shuffle-equivalent interconnection schemes that can be used within the optical link-stages of photonic switching networks. These schemes include the 2-shuffle, the 2- banyan, and the segmented-2-shuffle, which can be used to interconnect 2-input, 2-output switching nodes. It will be shown that each of these interconnection schemes can be implemented using space-variant computer- generated binary phase gratings.
