A corporate library 'single search box' solution

Alcatel-Lucent has had an internal library website since 1993, called "InfoView." Each InfoView page has two search boxes: one for a "site" search on all pages and one searching the specific collection focus of that page, e.g. books. We hear a constant push towards a single search box approach. That is, a minimal interface in the form of a search box that just gives the user what they want. This paper will try to summarize the functioning of our existing interface and some of the decisions and issues affecting our search functionality
