A Fast Low Power Time to Voltage Converter for High Luminosity Collider Detectors
Multiple sample analog store TVC is being developed for detectors with interaction rates of up to 10**8 Hz and for time measurements in the range 5 to 300 nsec. The first prototype was realized in a 1.6 micron CMOS process and demonstrates uncalibrated capacitor to capacitor and chip to chip errors of a fraction of a nanosecond (out of a 25 nsec range). The second version is data driven (natural zero suppression), allows for event selection by a delayed trigger (order 1 micro- second), and includes on chip analog to digital conversion. Total power is expected to be less than 10mW per channel for a final version.
