A Generic Interface for Open vSwitch
04 July 2016
The fundamental innovation of the Software-Defined Network architecture lies within the separation between the control plane and the data plane. While the centralization of the control plane offers to the network operator multiples flexibilities, the simplification of the data plane allows him/her to reduce operational costs. However, those flexibilities present limitations, especially when it comes to add new data plane functionalities. After providing a few detailed examples of such limitations, this document presents a solution to overcome them. It will describe an implementation of such a solution onto the open-source software-based Open vSwitch.
