A High-Level Language Would Make a Good Standard Form for Nonlinear Programming Problems

We propose using a high-level language, such as the AMPL language we are developing, as a "standard Form" for nonlinear programming problems. Advantages include ease of understanding, compact problem representation, automatic derivative computations, and direct expression of algorithmically useful problem structures.
