A Linear Array of Twelve Graded Index Lenses Butted Coaxially Against Single-Mode Fibers Using Silicon V-groove Technology (NOT KNOWN IF TALK GIVEN BECAUSE AUTHOR HAS LEFT AT&T)

A short length of graded-index multimode fiber butted coaxially with single-mode fiber serves as a sens for radiation leaving or entering the single-mode fiber. A linear array of twelve such fibers and lenses aligned using silicon V-groove technology is described. Far-field patterns for lenses of different lengths and different index gradients were measured at lambda=0.78micron and 1.31micron.
