A Modular Approach for the Design and Planning of UMTS Core Networks

This paper describes Lucent's approach and associated planning systems. It also presents a case study for a UMTS core network in Germany. Moreover, the paper discusses the main issues that have been identified to date, related to the UMTS network planning process, methods and tools. The paper concludes with a discussion of experiences gained from the case study and the techniques for improving and speeding up the UMTS core network planning process.
