A New Approach for Optimal Power Control in the Uplink of Cellular CDMA Systems

Power control is very crucial for wireless communication systems. In cellular code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems, the power control subject to the received signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) requirement would mitigate the near-far effect and maintain a satisfactory overall system performance. In this paper, we introduce a new efficient optimization scheme for the power control in the CDMA uplinks. Our new analysis is derived for the realistic scenario consisting of multiple base stations and mobile users over the additive white Gaussian noise channel. Both intracell and intercell interference powers are considered here as the essential factors emerging in any cellular CDMA system. Besides, we also design a novel computationally-efficient powercontrol optimization scheme for the CDMA systems. This new scheme is simply based on the signal-to-noise ratio at the receiver and the locations of the base stations and mobile users. Finally, an example is presented to show the superiority of our proposed method for the uplink power-control optimization to another existing scheme.
