A New Rapid Screening Method for Silicones by Size Exclusion Chromatography

New Image

Silicone compounds are widely used as potting compounds, sealants, adhesives, and encapsulants in the manufacture of electronic equipment because of their desireable thermal and mechanical properties, and their non-hygroscopic nature. Most commercial silicone formulations contain a low percentage of low viscosity silicone oils, even when properly cured. These low viscosity silicone oils, because of their low surface tension, readily spread over almost all surfaces, and can cause serious problems in the operation of nearby electrical relay and switch contacts.
