A Novel PCS Lane Management Mechanism For High-Speed Ethernet
04 May 2016
In high-speed Ethernet such as 40G/100G Base-R, multiple PCS lanes are used usually to transport data. When any lane cannot be synchronized or aligned, traffic will be broken and this greatly wastes datawidth. A Novel PCS Lane Management Mechanism For High-Speed Ethernet is presented here. This mechanism can ensure data to be continue to be transported on the normal PCS lanes at lower speed in case of one or more PCS lanes fail, and data to be transported at full datawidth when all the failed PCS Lanes returns to normal. It is of importance for high-speed Ethernet to take full use of the resource of datawidth.
