A queueing Analysis of Response Time in a UNIX(R) Operating System (NOT KNOWN IF PUBLISHED BECAUSE AUTHOR HAS LEFT AT&T)
10 May 1989
We analyzed the response time of UNIX(R) operating system by constructing a queueing model. This queueing model is based on the UNIX scheduling algorithms: Prioritized round-robin, nonpreemptive discipline in Kernel mode, and preemptive discipline in user mode. The results show UNIX has an excellent response time for the processes in kernel mode.
