A Reconfigurable Ultra-Wideband Channel Synthesizer Forms a Multi-Purpose Cost-Saving RF Functional Block
28 June 2003
This talk reports on Universal Channel Synthesizer Modules suited for any basestation application simply by reconfiguring internal structures. Central issue of a simple-structured synthesizer is a wide-tuning range voltage-controlled microwave oscillator. Varactors formed by micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) play an important role in achieving a superior combination of noise performance and tuneability. A programmable low-noise high-frequency prescaler is key to generating lower frequency bands without sacrificing spurious and noise performance. Test results of initial reconfigurable synthesizer prototypes are discussed.
