A Robust CELP Coder with Source Dependent Channel Coding
Significant strides have been made in improving the speech quality of Code Excited Linear Prediction (CELP), making near toll quality speech at 8000 bits/s a reality. Thus, CELP is now a viable method for many telecommunication applications where bandwidth is premium. In many of these applications, such as mobile satellite communications, the speech coding algorithm must be robust in the presence of channel errors. Past CELP research efforts focused mainly on improving the speech quality and minimizing the computational complexity. Recently, more attention has been directed toward the robustness of the algorithm in the presence of channel errors.
