A Single-Device, Actively Modelocked 10 GHz, Picosecond Fiber at 1.5um
01 January 2002
We demonstrate a 10 GHz actively modelocked, polarization-maintaing fiber ring laser that utilizes a single device to provide gain, loss modulation, optical isolation, and repetition rate adjustment. This monolithic device incorporates a semiconductor optical amplifier together with an electroabsorption modulator and can provide net gain of 1.6 dB. 1.5 um pulsestrains in the 2 to 5 picosecond range are generated with 2 ppm tunability in the repetition rate through pertubation of the electroabsortion modulator reverse bias.
