A Throughput Analysis of SDLC/HDLC Link Level Protocols.

In this memorandum an analysis of the throughput of SDLC/HDLC link level protocols is presented. The analysis is done by considering the detailed mechanisms of SDLC/HDLC protocols and by adopting a correlated error model. Throughput efficiency expressions are given for each of the three operational modes, namely, the ABM, ARM, and NRM modes. A number of throughput models with simplified assumptions, for example, independent error assumption, etc., are shown to be obtainable from the throughput model described in this memorandum.
