This paper reports a time domain reflectometry technique for measuring the minimum shielding effectiveness of coaxial cable assemblies. Experimental data for coaxial cable and microstrip lines are presented and compared. The paper also presents circuit simulations, which mathematically model the experiments and confirm the validity of the measurement scheme. This method is demonstrated to be a simpler, reliable and time-effective alternative to the well-known transfer impedance method in frequency domain.
