A Two Layer Fiber Distribution and Switching System.
01 January 1989
Several alternatives for a new fiber distribution and switching system are described that will relieve the congestion that a large number of video channels may produce with the present residential B-ISDN. One alternative uses a hybrid analog and digital network that is called Broadband Integrated Services Hybrid Network (B-ISHN). It will off-load the broadcast NTSC TV channels onto a second layer that is on a second fiber or on the same fiber but at a different wavelength. An alternative digital overlay system is described that could utilize a new photonic switch architecture called merged code division and wavelength division.
