A Unified Set of Proposals for Control and Design of High Speed Data Networks
01 March 1991
We show how a high speed, virtual circuit based data network may be designed and operated asymptotically optimally. Specifically, we achieve nearly optimal throughtput and delay using relatively small buffers. The cost of the near optimality is a fairly sophisticated feedback-based, adaptive protocol. Our point of view is flexible, accommodating rate and window based control schemes and various error correcting protocols.
