Accelerators and Materials Science

Accelerators have played important roles in several areas of materials science. The impact of ion implantation and analysis techniques has been crucial in the development of the present-day semiconductor industry. We will give an historical perspective and then concentrate on recent studies of phase transitions of Si. We will discuss some of the possible new areas of semiconductor science and technology that the high-energy tandem implanters will allow us to access.
