ACCESS INDEPENDENT MOBILE CORE NETWORKS
18 June 2015
At the time of 5G, devices are expected to simultaneously connect through multiple interfaces involving a variety of technologies such as WiFi, 4G, 5G sub 6 GHz and 5 GHz high band or mmwave. It is important to ensure that the number of core network nodes deployed to exploit this variety of technologies is minimized to reduce costs. At the same time, when the physical data rates and latencies permit, services and policies should be uniformly applicable to all access technologies. In this paper, we describe the concept of an access independent core network that achieves these goals.
