Active mode-locking at 4.4 GHz in a 1-cm long monolithic extended cavity laser

A 1.0-cm long monolithic extended-cavity laser has been fabricated and actively mode-locked at a repetition rate of 4.4 GHz. At a center wavelength of 1.57 micron, the laser produces 9.5-ps optical pulses with peak powers of 100 mW.
