Adaptive and Sparse Dispersion Compensation for Heterogeneous-Span Optical Networks

We describe two new dispersion map prescriptions for 10 Gb/s transmission systems. The first refered to as adaptive dispersion compensation improves transmission in optical networks with heterogeneous spans while the second, referred to as sparse dispersion compensation, allows a dramatic reduction of the number of dispersion-compensating modules.
