Alignment, attachment and reliability of 1.5micron single frequency hybrid SCBR/CSBH lasers.

SCBR lasers consist of 1.55micron channeled-substrate buried heterostructure lasers attached to silicon chip Bragg reflectors which stabilize single longitudinal mode operation. For practical use in 417Mb/s (or higher bit rate) 1.55micron single mode systems, SCBR lasers must meet system specifications and, in addition, be readily manufacturable and reliable. This memorandum describes results achieved in alignment and attachment of SCBR's to CSBH lasers as well as preliminary reliability assessment of the hybrid devices. It is concluded that the SCBR lasers are suitable in initial characteristics for manufacture and possess the potential reliability for use in terrestrial systems.
