All-VCSEL Based 100-Gb/s PDM-4PAM Coherent System for Applications in Metro Networks

We demonstrate an all-VCSEL based 100-Gb/s polarization-division-multiplexed 4-level pulse-amplitude-modulation coherent system with two directly modulated 1.55-um single-mode VCSELs for the transmitter and one VCSEL for the local oscillator. We transmit the 100-Gb/s signal over 320-km standard-single-mode-fiber.
