This review summarizes current information concerning concentrations of selected anthropogenic emittants and their transformation products, in both outdoor and indoor atmospheres. In the case of species for which national ambient air quality standards have been established, sufficient data are available to indicate long term outdoor trends as well as concentrations. For other species, the outdoor data are generally limited to selected concentrations only. Indoor information is still less abundant, and representative concentration ranges or (in many cases) a few individual measurements characterize the data base. For perspective, two diagrams in this paper compare indoor, urban outdoor, and rural outdoor concentrations for several of the species. This paper concludes with recommendations for future study.
