Amorphous Carbon Hermetically Coated Optical Fibers.

The work reported in this memo follows that described in memo #11524-861031-51TM. In this study, an in-line CVD system has been developed in which an amorphous carbon hermetic coating is applied to an optical fiber. Unimodal strengths in the 500- 600 ksi level are achieved with an "n" > 200. This memo will appear in the technical digest of the conference on Optical Fiber Communication, to appear in January 1988. A more detailed description will appear in a forth coming memo.
