Competition is forcing fundamental changes in the banking industry. With industry deregulation, financial services have become an increasingly attractive business opportunity to a broad range of competitors. Brokerage houses offer a supermarket of financial services to upscale clients; retailers leverage off of internal networks to provide (POS) Point of Sale and other card services; even traditional manufacturers are providing expanded financing services outside the base of their own products.
