An experimental computer graphics, software-based system is described wherein the documentation associated with the design, manufacturing and applications engineering of battery plants can be readily generated in an electronic format. The system is composed of a set of interactive computer programs which are used in conjunction with a computer-aided graphics system. Traditionally, this documentation consists of several hand-drawn drawings which represent only a few typical configurations of the numerous optional equipment which can be mounted in a battery plant frame. The battery plant design, manufacturing and applications engineering functions are complicated because it is difficult and expensive to generate drawings which truly represent the specific equipment configuration of interest. This paper describes a system which generates those specific configuration drawings in an automated fashion. The system is driven by a set of pre-programmed design rules which optimize the placement of equipment in the battery plant frame.
