A fast and easy to use automatic routing system is developed for custom VLSI layouts, which utilizes the following three step procedure: channel extraction, global routing, local routing. The system includes gridlines routing of three different net types using a single metal layer and a single polysilicon layer, plus a new and novel technique to improve the use of routing space in some cases.
