An Economical Fiber Bragg Grating Interrogator for Medium-Scale Sensing Application
01 January 2016
In this letter, we propose and experimentally demonstrate an economical fiber Bragg grating (FBG) interrogating scheme for medium-scale sensing application. The interrogator is based on a 2-nm bandwidth superfluorescent fiber source combined with an edge filter with complementary outputs. The impact of the power drift of the optical source and the variance of fiber loss have been investigated and eliminated. The experiment was made and a temperature resolution of 0.8 °C was demonstrated over 90 °C range. Initial results show that the interrogator is proved to be robust and cost-effective for medium-scale FBG sensing application.
