An Enhanced Multi-user Eigen Transmission Scheme for Cell Edge Performance Improvement

Multi-user eigen transmission scheme (MET) has been extensively investigated in MU-MIMO down-link transmission due to its best performance and low computational complexity. Based on existing solutions of MET, an enhanced MET (eMET) scheme is proposed in this paper to further enhance the performance of cellular network, especially on the cell edge performance. Theoretical analysis show that through successively transmit eigen-channel optimization and selection, eMET outperforms MET in multi-cell down-link transmission. System level simulation results demonstrate that eMET outperforms MET in both cell average performance and cell edge performance. Taking the performance of MET scheme as the baseline, eMET scheme can achieve above 15% cell edge gain in single cell transmission and 30% cell edge gain in coordinated multi-cell transmission (CoMP)without any loss of system average performance.
