An evolution of Proxy Mobile IPv6 to the cloud

Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Networking (SDN) paradigms do not leave any network services untouched. In this work, we will present an approach to how Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) can evolve to the cloud with a step-by-step architecture guideline while keeping standards compatibility. We show how PMIPv6 can fit a central cloud - edge cloud environment on the top of Kubernetes and Openstack under a unified orchestration umbrella. The proposed new setting does not just enforce acquiring new capabilities, e.g., scaling of PMIPv6 elements, but it also ensures closed-loop orchestration where PMIPv6 can be controlled continuously by actual network needs.
